Job Description:

Are you an experienced user of ESRI GIS Software? Would you like to play a key role in supporting UK Defence?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small team specialising in providing marine environment information that is vital to the success of military operations and the protection of our marine environment.

About the UKHO

The UKHO is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. We work with a wide range of data partners to chart the world's oceans in order to develop and serve world leading software and data solutions to commercial shipping companies, navies and maritime organisations.

The role

You will join the Marine Environmental Products team which is responsible for delivering dynamic graphic and textual products detailing all aspects of the marine environment. The team combine graphic design and geospatial data skills and tools to produce products which support military operations.

Working as the technical lead, you will engage closely with marine scientists, the Royal Navy and the Met Office to ensure the timeliness, accuracy and relevance of the team’s work and will have significant opportunities to engage with the discovery and shaping of new processes, along with the modernisation of existing products and systems. If you want to develop skills and knowledge that are widely transferable within the UKHO, the Royal Navy, MoD and the private sector, this is the role for you.

You will coordinate the production and delivery of Defence Maritime Environment Briefs and Environmental Awareness Charts and liaise with internal and external stakeholders including our Royal Navy customer/users and the Met Office to agree specification and scheduling of the team’s output. From time-to-time you will also be required to brief military personnel and visitors on the work of the team and environmental awareness products.

Job Requirements:

You will need to be a competent user of ESRI ArcGIS/GISPro software with effective oral and written communication skills. Knowledge/experience of Adobe InDesign would be desirable. As the technical lead of a small, supportive team you will have an intelligent approach to people management and get job satisfaction from delivering timely, quality assured, fit for purpose outcomes.

In return

UKHO is a great place in which to explore your career potential. While our projects are career-defining, the work/life balance that we can offer you is equally exceptional. From flexitime, flexible working, an award-winning office environment and a generous annual leave allowance of 34.5 days including public holidays, the opportunities open to you here are hard to beat.
