Job Description:

Liverpool Hope University is a vibrant community with high scholarly standards. We are proud of our past, confident in our present, and ambitious for our future research goals. We submitted over 96% of our Research active staff (colleagues with Significant Responsibility for Research) in thirteen Units of Assessment for REF 2021. All 13 subject units were assessed as having aspects of their work in Internationally Excellent (3*) or World Leading (4*) categories. The subjects submitted were English Language and Literature; Theology and Religious Studies; Psychology; History; Computer Science and Informatics; Nutrition; Sport and Exercise Sciences; Geography and Environmental Studies; Politics and International Studies; Education; Music, Drama, Dance, Performing Arts; Social Work and Social Policy; Art and Design. We are a research-informed teaching University of distinction, our policy is to combine these elements and continue to expand the University’s academic profile. It is in this context that we are recruiting staff who will join with us in our pursuit of excellence.

Post-Doctoral Research Assistant, Ministry Research Project (Geospatial Analysis) - Fixed term until 30th June 2023.

The university wishes to recruit a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant – Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for a research project that is commissioned by the Archdiocese of Liverpool.  The project is being carried out collaboratively between the Department of Geography and Environmental Science and the School of Humanities (Theology, Philosophy and Religious Studies). This post will be located in the Department of Geography and Environmental Science.

We are seeking an individual who is skilled in the use of Geographical Information Systems (particularly QGIS) and is able to employ a variety of spatial data to assist the achievement of the project goals. The successful applicant will also provide research and administrative support to the academic managers responsible for the delivery of this research project.

A primary aim of the Ministry Research Project is to deepen the understanding of the permanent diaconate to inform its future development. Complementing social science methodologies used in other parts of the project, this role will make use of geospatial technologies. These will be used to analyse the current deployment of personnel in terms of their location and skill sets and then to map them in relation to other resources and to social and economic conditions. The role will involve the analysis of spatial data and making it available in an accessible form to benefit decision makers involved in the organisation of ministry and meeting needs.

The successful candidate will hold (or be close to completion) a PhD in an area relevant to the requirements of this post.

As this is a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant successful candidates will be encouraged to make a contribution to research activities within the university and to develop their research profile.

The significant responsibility of the successful candidate will to provide support in this particular research project.

This is a fixed-term appointment and will end on 30th June 2023.

Liverpool Hope strives to be a University where the individual and individuality matter.  We are committed to supporting and promoting equality and diversity to create an inclusive working environment that recognises and respects difference.
