Our Product Specialist posts offer excellent career potential to expand on your practical experience in GIS software. Joining a world leading centre, you will manage and manipulate GIS data to deliver, update and assist in the development of new products to meet the changing needs of our customers and ensure safety of life at sea.

About the UKHO

UKHO is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. We work with a wide range of data partners to chart the world's oceans in order to develop and serve world leading software and data solutions to commercial shipping companies, navies and maritime organisations. Our products ensure safe navigation and global trade efficiency and support other marine activities including economic development, environmental protection, resource exploration and utilisation, scientific research and security and defence.

The roles

The Tactical Products Team is one of several Production Teams within the Customer Division that are responsible for the maintenance and production of the UKHO’s extensive range of navigational and situational awareness products and services for the Royal Navy and our commercial customers. Tasks in the Tactical Products Team fall within four key customer areas, of which we are recruiting the following:

  • Tactical Products Specialist - Additional Military Layers (AML) x 1 - Additional Military Layers (AML) is a range of digital geospatial products designed to enhance situational awareness in the marine environment. Endorsed by NATO and coordinated by the UKHO, AML provides tactical advantage in military and humanitarian operations by using geospatial intelligence.

  • Tactical Products Specialist - Littoral and Riverine (LitR) x 2 - Working internally with specialists in Remote Sensing and Data Science where required to source and analyse data for inclusion in products supporting amphibious landings in the Littoral Zone (Coastal, Lakes & Rivers).

Post holders will primarily focus on one area, applying and manipulating marine geospatial data, but may be required, when appropriate, to cross train in other activity areas to support the overall output of the Team.

What we are looking for

You will have practical experience in utilising GIS software packages to manipulate, manage and present data sets or generate products.  For the two posts in the LirR team we are also looking for experience in using Adobe packages. For all posts you will thrive on working as part of a supportive team, sharing a common goal, and get job satisfaction from delivering quality, fit for purpose outcomes to meet customer needs.

The full technical requirements for each post and detailed jobs descriptions can be found on the civil service site when clicking the apply button.

In return

UKHO is a great place in which to explore your career potential. While our projects are career-defining, the work/life balance that we can offer you is equally exceptional. From flexitime, flexible working, an award winning office environment and a generous annual leave allowance of 34.5 days including public holidays, the opportunities open to you here are hard to beat.

We want you to feel part of something bigger and we encourage team-spirit and a community feel in our work-place. When you start your career with us, you will work with your line manager to create your own personal development plan.
