Job Description:

Being a Production Officer presents an excellent opportunity to develop and further your understanding of maritime data analysis and engineering, working in GIS environments, whilst serving national interests.

About UKHO

UKHO is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. We work with a wide range of data partners to chart the world's oceans in order to develop and serve world leading software and data solutions to commercial shipping companies, navies and maritime organisations. Our products ensure safe navigation and global trade efficiency and support other marine activities including economic development, environmental protection, resource exploration and utilisation, scientific research and security and defence.

About Submarine Operations and Support (SOS)

The MOD requires a range of specialist products and services to support submarine deployments and activities. The Submarine Operations and Support (SOS) team is responsible for meeting this requirement.

The role

Production Officers play a key role contributing to the production of geospatial products and analyse datasets to meet the defined output, deadlines, cost, quality and security criteria required by the MOD.

In this particular post you will produce specialist analogue and digital products in support of submarine deployments by analysing data collected as a result of submarine operations, identifying causes of operational issues and enhancements and additions to SOS products. You will maintain close contact with the Royal Navy customer to ensure the products and services provided effectively meet their requirements, whilst following strict security procedures to protect classified assets and data.

Job Requirements:

What we are looking for

  • Experience of manipulating data and producing products in a GIS environment.
  • Analytical ability to draw logical conclusions from complex and interrelated data and communicate those conclusions in a clear and concise manner, verbally and in writing.
  • Understanding of the significance of the marine environment to submarine operations.
  • Understanding of maritime data especially in the bathymetric and oceanographic domains.

If you have the above technical understanding and experience and thrive on working as part of a supportive team sharing a common goal and get job satisfaction from delivering quality, fit for purpose outcomes to meet customer needs, we would like to hear from you.

And in return?

We will actively empower you to develop yourself and provide flexible working practices for a healthy work/life balance. You will also benefit from access to the facilities of a brand-new award-winning office, with use of our on-site gym, free parking and subsidised canteen.

For a full job description, including the competencies you will be assessed on in your application, please click the apply button.

Please note this is a MOD reserved post and therefore applications will only be accepted from UK Nationals (those with dual nationality are also ineligible to apply).  Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check and DV Clearance BEFORE being able to take up the post.  This may result in a delay to start dates.

Closing date: 20 May 2020.

Selection for appointment to the Civil Service is on merit, on the basis of fair and open competition, as outlined in the Civil Service Commission’s Recruitment Principles.
