Job Description:
Surrey Digital Services
Shared GIS Developer (Post number 14.042) - 12 month contract.
Salary range - £24,093 - £28,118 per annum
Surrey Digital Services (SDS) has been created by the Surrey GIS Forum with the aspiration of creating a constellation of common shared services that can be used across Surrey, for example facilitating joined-up fault reporting via hosted address and basemapping services. It’s focus is on common GIS and data services but it is expected that SDS will be interoperable with other digital platforms.
SDS is looking for a GIS developer to help make these aspirations a reality by exploiting and championing Open Source and Open Standards and seeking to align with the principles of the Government Digital Service, Open Data Institute, Local Government Digital Makers and others.
Essential skills and experience include:
Demonstrable knowledge and experience of desktop GIS systems, preferably MapInfo Professional, QGIS or ESRI
Demonstrable knowledge and experience of a web based platforms and services for the production of mapping and visualisations.
Experience of working with and managing a spatial database with particular reference to Postgres/PostGIS and capable data manipulation and management skills
Demonstrable experience of the National Land and Property Gazetteer and the Ordnance Survey AddressBase range of products
Familiarity with the use of hosted solutions suppliers such as Amazon web services or Azure
Strong organisational skills with the ability to use own initiative and confidently handle a range of enquiries with minimum intervention from others
Ability to work independently.
The post is based at Guildford Borough Council but the postholder will be expected to travel around Surrey County and engage with a broad range of people.
