Job Description:
David Lock Associates (DLA) is an independent town planning, urban design and masterplanning consultancy owned by a trust on behalf of its employees. We are based in Milton Keynes, but with projects across the UK and abroad. We advise landowners and developers in designing and securing planning permission, advise business and civic leaders on city visioning and work with local authorities and stakeholders on regeneration master plans. GIS has been an important part of our business for a long time and it is integral to the work we do. Our strategy over the last few years has been to further embed the technology into our core business processes and to push the boundaries of GIS. We are seeking an enthusiastic GIS graduate to join us to assist us in achieving this ambition. In this role you will support the delivery of a wide range of geospatial tasks from map production, analysis, through to data and system management for the company and its clients. These tasks are key to ensuring that projects have access to up-to-date, accurate and relevant information that can support decision-making. You will also be a keen advocate of the technology with an interest in how it can be utilised to increase the company’s GIS offering.
Job Requirements:
Responsibilities
Provide GIS support to a wide range of urban design and planning projects to meet the needs of our clients and project partners
Manage data to ensure the quality and integrity of data held within GIS
Create cartographic outputs which meet our high graphical standards
Support the development and management of GIS within the company under the guidance and direction of the GIS team.
Work closely with both the wider Mapping and Communications team and the multidisciplinary project teams
Liaise with third parties regarding data exchange
Ensure copyright and licensing compliance is followed and met appropriately
Be a strong advocate and communicator of the benefits of GIS
Qualifications and Experience
Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
To possess either a secondary GIS qualification e.g. MSc in GIS, or have previous experience of working with GIS
Knowledge and experience of using ESRI ArcGIS products
An understanding of good graphic communication techniques and a keen interest in cartography
High degree of IT awareness and computer literacy
Ability to analyse and prioritise work effectively
Effective communication and inter-personal skills
What We Offer
Great working environment where you are actively encouraged to develop your career. In addition, we offer some excellent benefits: a competitive salary, company pension scheme, healthcare, life insurance; generous leave allowance; paid professional subscriptions; commitment to CPD; a cycle to work scheme and a monthly communal office lunch. *Please note that a waiting period applies to some benefits
