SRK Consulting has an exciting opportunity for a GIS/data management specialist to join our global organisation. The successful candidate will join our Data & Visualisation team in our central Cardiff offices. The position offers rewarding challenges and opportunities to develop expertise in new and interesting areas of GIS and data management application.
Established in 1974, SRK employs more than 1,400 professionals internationally in over 45 offices on 6 continents.  SRK provides professional technical consultancy services to the mining and metals sector, encompassing multi-disciplinary technical studies and due diligence for mineral assets including exploration through to development, operation and mine closure.

Role Responsibilities:

To provide efficient and competent GIS and Data Management services to the three technical departments in SRK (Mining, Geology and Geo-Environmental).

Main Duties:

The following provides a guide to the main duties envisaged, however, the list is not exhaustive, and you may be required to undertake any further reasonable duties from time to time as may be deemed in keeping with the job designation:
 

Job Requirements:


 

Duties and experience required:

  • Must be expert user of ArcGIS (version 10.2 upwards).
  • Creation and maintenance of spatial data, including digitising, attribute and geometry editing, spatial analysis, data conversions, co-ordinate system conversions and cartographic design.
  • Understanding of how GIS data can be incorporated into technical studies across a wide variety of technical disciplines.
  • Detailed understanding of GIS data types and formats (both raster and vector formats) along with key industry supplier contacts to select, procure and process GIS data into suitable formats and types for further analysis.
  • Managing and communicating company-wide and project specific GIS data.
  • Multi-layer mapping and criteria ranking analysis of GIS data for use in specific technical studies such as site selection and suitability modelling.
  • Development and manipulation of field data capture systems, GPS Data, coordinate systems, etc.
  • Administration of web-based GIS platforms for collation, consolidation and communication of project GIS data.
  • Preparation of technical figures, diagrams and scaled drawings and maps for technical reports, presentations and marketing materials supporting all technical departments and the company generally.

Essential:

  • Attention to detail in understanding client (external and internal) needs.
  • Managing data in an organised systematic approach and communicating results in a clear, concise and efficient manner.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on budget.
  • Ensure projects are well governed in line with internal audit standards.
  • Ensure GIS projects are well managed.
  • Demonstrate excellent project management in order to plan and deliver high quality GIS projects.
  • Plan and manage workloads to ensure that the projects are well delivered to meet all business needs.
