Job Description:

About the role
 
We are seeking a leader for our Data Team, based at our waterside offices at Town Quay, Southampton.  The role involves the business management of a consultancy team providing services in data management, GIS and survey.  The team delivers the following services:
 
  • Data management (including collation, purchasing, formatting and licence management)
  • Development of data storage platforms (inc. Access and MS SQL)
  • Development of web hosted and online mapping tools
  • Producing GIS outputs using the ESRI software suite
  • Spatial and volumetric data analysis
  • Data visualisation
  • Delivery of GIS training courses
  • Remote sensed data sourcing, analysis and interpretation
  • Data cleansing and QA
  • Survey specification and management e.g. hydrographic/topographic
 
Key aspects of the Team Leader role include:
  • Single-point responsibility for the Data Team’s delivery
  • Team management, training and development
  • Resource allocation and management
  • Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard
  • Business development
  • Services and product development
  • Client relationship management
  • Development and delivery of the team’s marketing plan

Job Requirements:

Relevant skills and experience:
  • Educated to degree or higher in a related discipline;
  • Expert knowledge of data management
  • Experience of data tools/applications development
  • Experience of data management for the marine environment preferred
  • Consultancy experience, including time spent in leadership/management positions
  • GIS, analytical skills and knowledge of relevant metadata standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate confidently and effectively with colleagues and clients; and
  • Must be highly motivated with a strong desire to manage and develop a team
